By participating in this server, you agree to abide by the following rules.
No Harassment
We have a strict no-harassment policy. Examples of unacceptable behavior:
- Offensive comments related to hearing status, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, race, or religion.
- Gratuitous/off-topic sexual images or behaviour.
- Unwelcome attention (if someone asks you to leave them alone, listen to them).
- Making light of/mocking comments about trigger warnings and content warnings.
- Intimidation, threats of violence.
- Deliberate "outing" of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent except as necessary to protect people from intentional abuse (e.g. reports to a moderator).
The following are not examples of harassment:
- Reasonable communication of boundaries, e.g. “leave me alone”, “I’m not discussing this with you”.
- Criticizing racist, sexist, ableist, or otherwise oppressive behavior.
Social Rules
We want discussions to be helpful and friendly. These social rules help us stay on track.
- No "Well-Actually"s, i.e. an unhelpful correction that derails the conversation and makes the original speaker feel bad.
❌ Avoid: "Actually, the correct sign for...is...".
✅ Better: "Previously, I've seen these variations...in this context...".
- No acting surprised. Everybody has gaps in their knowledge. Don't act surprised when one is revealed.
❌ Avoid: "I can't believe you don't know the sign for...".
✅ Better: "A sign for...is...".
- No trolling, baiting, or personal attacks. Trolling ruins communities and it has no place here.
We don't expect everyone to be perfect. What we do expect is that you react gracefully when one of these is pointed out, and make a genuine effort to avoid making the same mistake in the future.
